So there's a non-zero chance that once the disbursement from my mom and stepdad's probate case is made, I will be moving YET AGAIN -- this time to An Tir, specifically the Barony of Wealdsmere (Spokane). My sister, who I'm living with, wants to move up there with my niece and myself to be near my nephew, who lives near Coeur d'Alene Idaho, thus uniting what's left of my wee family.

I don't blame her for wanting to move -- it's brutally hot here, and getting hotter. (I'm skipping a tourney today because I don't think I can take the heat.) And well, it's Las Vegas, a town I have fought to avoid living in ever since I left in 1975.

So we'll see! I'll keep everyone posted!

Well now!

At last night's Starkhafn Social on Discord, the suggestion was made to me to become the Barony's Archivist, since I used to live here Back In The Day when the Barony first became a Barony and might know/recognize things. That might be a fun job to do! Going through boxes of old documents and ancient history might be entertaining, and organizing it to share with the rest of the Barony might be worth doing. The only downside is I'd have to find someplace to store the boxes of stuff, which I don't have room for at the moment. I suppose I could get a storage unit at the same place the rest of my stuff will be stored, but I don't know if they offer climate-controlled storage there. I'll have to think about it and look into ways to store the boxes if I do take it on....

Also, they'll be opening up a DEIB position here as soon as one is created/made a Great Officer at the Kingdom level -- I raised my hand for that too. XD We shall see!

In harpery news, I broke a string while tuning my wee harp up and just haven't had the mental bandwidth to finish the job, since I'm not quite done with the move here yet (taking care of that this weekend in Berkeley). I really need to get on the stick with that (and I will once I get back next week) -- I want to play with the other musicians here! XD
Well, I made it back to Starkhafn! ^__^ Kinda did it in record time too, about 8 hours including stops for food and petrol. (My wee black Mini, Crow, loves to go fast fast fast XD) I plan on resting for a few days to adjust to the altitude here, then I’ll be ready to get on with my life! ^__^

Packing proceeds apace for my move back to Starkhafn (Vegas)! I have nearly everything packed for the drive down, including all my SCA gear (and my harp of course); the books I have will be going into storage in June, along with the bulk of my possessions, since I'll be living in my sister's house until I can find/afford a place of my own. On that front, I've evidently been pre-approved for a VA home loan, so it's just a matter of finding a suitable condo, of which I have a number of likely suspects. XD

Just a couple more days of this, then I'll be home again. ^__^

... was wonderful! I flew back to NY and stayed with Jenna at her house on Long Island, then we made the trek to the event site. Nevermind I forgot my tunic had a big tear along the seam, I had a blast! The weather even cooperated and gave us a mostly mild, mostly sunny day. I drank the most delicious clove and cinnamon mead, made by Fiona (one of the Baronesses of An Dubhaigheainn, the other being her sister Hugoline), met new Skulls and caught up with old Skulls, and had my hands on a harp for the first time in months! I'm delighted by this last item -- there's a budding harper in Starkhafn who I've made the acquaintance of online, and I have grand plans to get up with her and talk harpery and music and and and!

Spent the next day, Mother's Day, with Jenna and her sister Purple's family (they are a delight), and mostly chilled and ate leftovers from the amazing feast at the event, then said my goodbyes and flew back to Cali. All in all it was a successful trip, a successful event, and very good for my soul.

NOW THE FUN BEGINS -- packing and purging and organizing for my move back to Starkhafn! Which is in TWO WEEKS!!! Guess I better get a wiggle on, huh? XD

So it's official -- I'm moving home to the Barony of Starkhafn (Las Vegas), Kingdom of Caid, at the end of May. Which is coming up real fast, innit? I have a ton of stuff to do, including get the car ready for a road trip loaded full of stuff, clean my room, pack, purge things I no longer need/want, and do all that other moving prep stuff. Gonna be busy for the next few weeks...

...Except for this coming weekend, when I am flying out to the East for the House Three Skulls 40th Anniversary event out in An Dubhaigeann (Long Island)! I can't wait to see my old House brothers and sisters again -- it's been too long.

Once I get back, I'll get started on the move. But until then, it's trip prep! ^__^
Well.

Hello, it's me, Mouse. Changed the name of this journal (used to be Ommadan), changed my SCA name (Nadbroicc inigena Druisten, pronounced vaguely like NADbrook INyena DRISTden -- just call me Mouse), fixing to change my living situation and move back to the Barony of Starkhafn (Las Vegas, aka Home), Kingdom of Caid, later this year. Been dealing with lack of spoons/spell slots, loss of focus, loss of way, loss of my mother last year.

I want to get better.

Right now my focus is on two things: doing Accessibility work at various conventions (did I mention during this gap that I was the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging deputy for the Principality of the Mists?) and prepping for my move back to Vegas. But I want to get my groove back and resume my endeavours in harpery and scribery and heraldry sooner rather than later. Maybe before the move, we'll see.

Anyway. Onward.
